Friday session with the oly crew (Rob and Dan), missed too many snatches to be happy with the session, warming up with only power snatches definitely doesn’t translate well for technique when you have to start catching them lower.  Figured out  my left knee has some patella tendinitis(see picture above), so I’ve been trying to keep my shin as vertical as possible to keep from aggravating it. Dan was also able to deconstruct my jerk, and may have found the reason for the sore knee. By not reaching enough with my front foot,I’m essentially driving my knee over the toe to get more depth on the catch for the jerk, this puts a huge strain on that tendon just below the knee cap.  In the picture on the left you can see it is quite evident. And now that I’ve been Olympic lifting with greater frequency this bad habit has resulted in what can also be referred to as “Jumpers Knee”.  Hopefully with some good mwod work, and ice I will be able to manage it until I can afford some time from training when ball season starts.  Rob and Dan also gave me some great drills to work on that should help with some muscle memory to correct this habit.

Saturday session at CrossFit Edmonton had me way out of my comfort zone!  After round 2 I pretty much mailed it in, and wanted to quit!  There were a few moments where I actually watched the rower drizzle off with nary a spin.  But since Brian was ahead of me I tried to make a push at the end to catch him, but he still beat me by approx 4om!

Just goes to show how important it is to have a great training partners to work with, not only to push you, but to help diagnose form.

No Agony, no Bragony!
